which type of thread/yarn should i use?

Question

It says in my signature that i am planning to crochet a sling bag. yes i am planning to, but i would like to seek sugggestions on which type of thread or yarn i should use. the following are the requirements i would like to fulfill :

(1) it should look casual (i intend to use it for a schoolbag)

(2) i want it to be sturdy(not flimsy) coz it should hold the books

(3) i intend to make the whole thing with a simple single-crochet stitch

(4) i would also consider having the bag beige, coz it fits with my bright blue uniform

(5) the measurements for the bag are 13" X 17" X 6"

(6) i am considering a fairly thick thread, to eliminate time and defects affecting its sturdiness.

I'm thinking of using the normal thread that one is able to get from most stationary shops, but at the same time considering ryan rope. i do intend to use the bag for a year or two until the stitches wear off. what type of material would you suggest me using?

Hemp is really strong. Nylon, maybe? Cotton us widely available and pretty strong, too, and I know you can get that in an ecru color.

I'd suggest lining the bag to keep it from stretching out, though. Books are heavy and would stretch out even the tightest of stitches.
