Help please

I have some stitches I got off the inernet.

On a pattern where it has:

Start with even no. of ch.

The patterns I have has:

4*n+2 chains?????

Anyone know what the n means with the *

* means times (i.e. multiply)

You can substitute in any number you like for the n, to get the size you need, but then you need to add 2 on afterwards. e.g.

 

4*n+2

n=1: 4x1 + 2 = 4 + 2 = 6

n=2: 4x2 + 2 = 8 + 2 = 10

n=3: 4x3 + 2 = 12 + 2 = 14

etc!
