How to place markers?

Okay, so I've decided to make a capelet. Now I'm to a point where I need to place markers every so many stitches. At the end of the row there should be six markers. What I'm wondering is how I'm to put them. It seems like they are to be between the stitches. Does that sound right? What can I use as markers if I don't have any? I'm open to any advice.

Yes that makes sense. you put them on your needle between the stitches. You can use paperclips, rings (band type or with small settings), earrings, safety pins, Yarn of a different color tied in a small circle, ive even used the tab off a pop can in a pinch. Good luck!

It took me forever to realize that you put them on the needle, not through the stitch. It sure was hard to figure out the beginning of a round when the marker was at the very bottom of the project. :lol
