how big before felted?

Hi all,

 

I want to felt a round hot pad that I will later needle felt a design on. How big do I want to make it? So it's a decent sized circle when felted. I want it to end up 6-8 diameter so it can be used as a hot pad/trivet thing.

Assuming you want this felted to point that you cannot see the stitches, it will probably shrink by about 40%. So if you want it to be between 7" - 8", I would make it at least 11".
