ski cap for a teenage boy...

i want to make a ski cap for my boyfriend but i dont know how big to make it...

when i make hats for myself i measure it on my head... but since he doesnt live around here i cant do that

 

can anyone tell me how big i need to make the circle before i stop increasing (like the diamater in inches)

If you measure around the whole circle, maybe 21-22 inches? My head is bigger than that and never fits store-bought hats but that seems to be a standard size.
