crocheting in the round & adding a color & keeping the row even

Any ideas on how to add a new color when crocheting in the round and keeping the row even so that when you come around again it lines up with the first stitch? I've tried to slip stitch and chain one and the start the new color, but that doesn't seem to work. It's always slightly off and doesn't look even.

Try changing your color just before you slip stitch the last stitch.

Thanks, I'll try that. I've just frogged the last 20 rows 3 times now. I probably could of had my purse done by now
