Finishing fridgies. . .

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I've been looking at bunches of free fridgie patterns and. . . well, I hope I'm not offending anybody :oopsbut they look a little floppy and unfinished to me with just a magnet stuck on the back of the crocheted piece.

I'm wondering, does anyone back their work in some way, to make them more rigid like commercial fridgies? And if so, what do you use? I was wondering about plastic canvas but don't know if it would work. . . I'd be interested to hear any views and/or experiences!

I used to belong to Fridgie Hiders, and some people would stitch the finished piece to plastic canvas or glue a bit of cardstock to the back. I tended to make 3-D stuffed fridgies, so I didn't deal with the floppiness myself. :think You could try using a smaller hook to make the piece stiffer. You could stitch some felt to the back and maybe insert a little batting, or insert a little plastic canvas as Stacey mentioned. You could just stiffen them with commercial stiffener, starch, or glue.
