Stephanie of http://www.yarnharlot.com/blog suggested a big event that became the Knitting Olympics. In a nutshell, you were supposed to pick a project that would challenge you, cast on right at or right after the Olympic torch was ignited in Turin (or something like that) and finish the project before it was extinguished at the end of the Games.

It became a HUGE event that thousands of people participated in and that made news headlines. Crocheters did the same thing...the Crochet Olympics.

Hope this helps?

It was a little crochet-along that coincided with the Winter Olympic games. The "yarnletes" picked a project and worked on it throughout the games, with a goal of finishing successfully by the closing ceremony of the "real" Olympics. There was a Knitting Olympics, too.
