Probably a dumb question

I found a pattern for baby slippers that I liked, but I had to change it around to make it fit my daughter and what I needed. So here is my question...can I post the pattern as mine? Can I sell the product? I ask because it is not "exactly" like the pattern, but I got the idea from it. Thanks in advance.

No. Changing hook size, colors or number of repeats to make it bigger/smaller does not mean it's your pattern now. Check with the creator about selling it, though. A lot of patterns allow for selling a couple here and there. Also, check the design den section on Crochetville. There are several discussions about pattern coyrights and selling.
