I'm new and need help understanding a pattern!

Hi everyone~

 

I am fairly new to crocheting. I am finally trying patterns out after tireless hours of trying to teach myself all the symbols and such. I am doing what is supposedly a "beginner" afghan pattern. The pattern reads: 2 dc in next sp

 

What exaclty am I supposed to do with this? I took it as do 2 double crochet stiches in the next chain from the hook.

 

Please help, I don't want to discover after hours of working on the afghan that I have been doing that part of the pattern completely wrong!!!

Space usually means the gap between 2 stitches of the previous row. You'd put 2 dc in the next space between the 2 stitches of row before. Hope this helps. Iva
