From Pom Pom Top to Bottom Hat (Adult Size)

From Pom Pom Top to Bottom Hat (Adult Size)
(starts with a crocheted pom pom and hat is worked directly from pom pom to top to bottom)

Materials:
Worsted Weight yarn (like Red heart supersaver yarn)
Size H hook (5.00 mm)
Stitch Marker
Yarn needle
Scissors
 

Finish Size: Will fit a 21" inch adult size head.  About 10" inches high counting pom pom.
 

Gauge: 9 rows of  8sc = 2 1/2" inches
 

Different stitches:

Sc Decrease                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

fphdc (front post half double crochet) 

bphdc (back post half double crochet) 

Bpsc (back post single crochet) 

fpsc (front post single crochet) 

And know how to work in front loop only and back loop only when instructed.

Directions:  
 

Pom Pom:
 

Rnd 1: ch4 leaving a 6" inch tail, sl st in 4th chain from hook to form ring, ch1, 6 sc in ring crocheting over tail, join with slst to front loop only of first sc. (6sc)
Pull tail taut. 
 

Rnd 2: Ch4, sl st in same front loop as joining slst, [ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] Do this 5 times, ch4, sl st in joining slst of Rnd1, slst into first back loop left unworked (from working rnd2 in front loops only) (this will set you up for next round) (12-ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 3: Ch1, (folding/working behind ch4 loops) 2 sc in each back loop around, join with slst to front loop of first sc.  (12sc)
 

Rnd 4: Ch4, slst in same front loop as joining, [ch4, sl st in front loop of next st, ch4, sl st in front loop of same st] Do this 11 times, ch4, slst in joining sl st of Rnd3, slst into first back loop left unworked. (24-ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 5: Ch1, (folding/working behind ch4 loops) 1 sc in same back loop, 2 sc in next back loop, [ 1sc in next back loop, 2 sc in next back loop] Do this 5 times, join with slst to front loop of first sc) (18sc)
 

Rnd 6: Ch4, slst in same front loop, [ ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] Do this 17 times, ch4, slst in joining slst of Rnd5, slst in first back loop left unworked . (36-ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 7: Ch1, (folding/working behind ch4 loops) 1 sc in each back loop around, join with slst to front loop only of first sc. (18sc)
 

Rnd 8: Ch4, slst in same front loop, [ ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] Do this 17 times, ch4, slst in joining slst of Rnd7, slst in first back loop left unworked . (36-ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 9: Ch1, (folding/working behind ch4 loops) 1 sc in each back loop around, join with slst to front loop only of first sc. (18sc)
 

Rnd 10: Ch4, slst in same front loop, [ ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] Do this 17 times, ch4, slst in joining slst of Rnd9, slst in first back loop left unworked . (36-Ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 11: Ch1, (folding/working behind ch4 loops) 1 sc in same back loop,  sc decrease next 2 back loops together, [1 sc in next back loop, sc decrease next 2 back loops together] do this 5 times, join with slst to front loop only of first sc. (12sts)
 

Rnd 12: Ch4, slst in same front loop, [ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] do this 11 times, ch4, slst in joining slst of Rnd11, slst in first unworked back loop. (24-ch4 loops)
 

Rnd 13: Ch1, sc decrease first 2 back loops together, [sc decrease next 2 back loops together] do this 5 times, join with slst to front loop of first sc. (6sts)
 

Rnd 14: Ch4, slst in same front loop, [Ch4, slst in front loop of next st, ch4, slst in front loop of same st] do this 5 times, ch4, slst in joining slst of Rnd13, slst in first unworked back loop.  (12-ch4 loops)
 

Hat part:
 

Rnd 15: Ch1, 1 sc in each back loop around. Do not join with slst. (6sc)

Note: From this point on you will work in a continuous spiral and will need to mark the first st at the beginning of each round, moving stitch marker up as you go along.  
 

Rnd 16: 2 sc in each st around. (12sc)
 

Rnd 17: [1sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] Do this 6 times (18sc)
 

Rnd 18: [1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (24sc)
 

Rnd 19: [1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (30sc)
 

Rnd 20: [1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (36sc)
 

Rnd 21: [1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (42sc)
 

Rnd 22: [1 sc in each of the next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (48sc)
 

Rnd 23: [1 sc in each of the next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st] Do this 6 times. (54sc)
 

Rnd 24: [1 sc in each of the next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (60sc)
 

Rnd 25: [1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st] do this 6 times. (66sc)
 

Rnd 26: 1 sc in each of the next 66 sts. (66sc)

Rnds 27-37: Repeat Rnd26 for Rnds 27 thru 37. (66sc)

Rnd 38: 1 sc in each of the next 66 sts, slst in next st. (66sc)
 

Note: From this Rnd on (Rnd39) you will join rnds with a slipstitch.
 

Rnd 39: Ch1, Bphdc around post of same sc you slst into. 1 Fphdc around post of next st, [1 Bphdc around post of next st, 1 Fphdc around post of next st] do this 32 times, join with slst to first Bphdc. (33 Bphdc, 33 Fphdc)
 

Rnd 40: Ch1, 1 Bphdc around post of first Bphdc, 1 Fphdc around post of first Fphdc, [1 Bphdc around post of next Bphdc, 1 Fphdc around post of next Fphdc] Do this 32 times, join with slst to first Bphdc of rnd. (33 Bphdc, 33 Fphdc)
 

Rnds 41 and 42: Repeat Rnd40 for Rnds 41 and 42. (33 Bphdc, 33 Fphdc)
 

Rnd 43: Ch1, 1 Bpsc around post of first Bphdc, Fpsc around post of first fphdc, [1 Bpsc around post of next Bphdc, i Fpsc around post of next Fphdc] Do this 32 times, join with to first Bpsc of rnd.  (33 Bpsc, 33 Fpsc)

Finish off and weave in ends.
