confused about pattern instructions

I think that sharing complete pattern instructions and making tutorials of patterns without the permission of the designer is illegal, but if you share the part that's confusing you here, we'll try to help.

Selind is right, only the author of the pattern has the copyright to the pattern, which means the right to distribute the pattern instructions in any form, print or digital including video.

If it's just a little bit that you are stuck on, it is usually OK to give 1 line of a pattern and ask for help deciphering it--some pattern lines can be convoluted with imbedded instructions. Also, a link to the pattern or a photo of the finished item if it is on the 'net somewhere, it could help us explain the reason it is saying to do something that doesn't make sense to you; it's easy to get 'lost' in a shaped pattern (like a toy, or garment) if a pattern doesn't tell you where you are.
