Welcome to the 'ville!  I'm pretty sure this is alternating rows of US DC and a row of US SC.  The back sides of the DCs are facing us; when I make something in the round that is straight DCs, like a granny square or a doily, it is easy to tell the back side because their 'bottoms' stick out, and that's what I'm seeing here.

The edge stitch at the far right side looks like a reverse single crochet, aka crab stitch.  It is a nice sturdy and 'finished looking' edging, sort of looks like a rope.  A lot of people find it hard to do; if you try it, my advice is 'persevere'.  I know to expect it, but the first couple of stitches my brain screams at me 'Stop!!  You are going the wrong way!!' but I keep going and my brain settles down as I continue.  One thing with this stitch, it's an edging only, it does not give you a top edge that you can easily work into.
