Looking for this pattern

Does anyone know how this would be made?  I can't find a pattern anywhere.  I can't figure out how the sides are done without having huge gaps between the puffs and the border sc's.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

To make the sides have less of a gap, I'd try chain 2 instead of 3 on the one side.  On the other, I'd half double crochet instead of double crochet.  See how that works.

In the photo you posted, they single crocheted round both side to make it look neat.
