Skip stitches

Question

Hi,

I’m doing a cardigan and the pattern for the sleeve armhole say skip first 6 stitches but I’m not sure how to do it, am I slip stitching the first 6 to get to the start of that row? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Now it makes sense - it does tell you exactly what to do.  The instruction immediately before "shape armhole" is fasten off.   Then--Shape armholes: Next row: (RS). Skip first 6 (8-10-12-14-18) sts. Join yarn with sl st to next dc...

So the pattern tells you how to do it, and I can see why it didn't say to slip stitch, the pattern covers a LOT of sizes, and slip stitching a few is one thing, but slip stitching 18 is something else - I'd think it (might) have a (slightly) different appearance than joining a new yarn, that would be only on 1 side of the armhole.
