Pattern confusion

Jae

Question

Hi I'm stuck on part 6. It says it ends with 32 st but if you look at it, it would only be 30 st. Don't know how to do it with 32 st 🥺 sorry beginner

1.  *1sc, inc* Repeat ** around (18)
2.  Sc in each st around (18)
3.  *2 sc, inc* Repeat ** around (24)
4-5. Sc in each st around (24)
6. *3 sc, inc* Repeat ** around (32)
7-10. Sc in each st around (32)
11. *4 sc, inc* Repeat ** around (40)
12-18. Sc in each st around (40)

You are right, don't apologize.  Starting with 24, and increasing every 4th stitch will add 6 stitches to 24, which is 30.  You need to increase by 8 stitches to reach 32, which would be every 3rd stitch (so, you want to repeat what it says in row 3).

There are a lot of problematic self published patterns out there, I hope this was a free one.  In addition to the math error, they are using the double asterisk in a non standard manner, it does not mean the end of a repeat.  https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/how-to-read-crochet-pattern  This is a handy link for all sorts of things besides this one page, see menu on the right side.

Back to your pattern, round 11 works as written if you were starting with 32, not 30 (because 32 divided by 4 is 8, and 8 + 32 = 40 -- this just verifies that 32 is the right number you need to maintain the next step's stitch count.
