What kinds of yarns can you dye?

mmouseplus.gifYou can dye anything but acrylic and a few other plastic yarns. However, what you use to dye with will change. Wool and other animal fibers require the use of acid (vinegar, citric acid) as a mordant (chemical that sets the dye in the fiber). This doesn't work for cotton. If I dye cotton I use Rit, Sabraset paints, or the dyes used for tie-dyeing.

I personally think dyeing wool is the easiest. Of course it can be more complicated depending on the effects you want, but....
