Help with a handbag pattern

I am new to this wonderful world of crochet and need some help with a patter.

 

I am making a purse whereby the base is round and mainly half double crochet stiches.

 

Once I change colors, the pattern reads " ch 2. 1 hdc in sp between each hdc around. Join with sl sto first hdc."

 

i would greatly appreciate clarification on the above.

Doing hdc in between stitches makes a beautiful fabric!   Please take a pic and show it off in the Show and Tell section when you're done.  I'd love to see it.

 

Normally when you insert your hook, it's in the top of a stitch (<) or in a space made by chains.  However, you can insert your hook anywhere.  In this case, you're inserting your hook between the previous row's hdc stitches.  Instead of going under the top 2 strands, go under all 3 strands.
