Crochet unicorn pattern baffling me

Hayley Jones

Question

Hello, I'm currently working on an amigurumi unicorn, but have got stuck 7 lines in!

The bit I'm stuck on says:

3dc,(2dc in next stitch, 2dc) 3 times, 6dc [21]

It's the 6dc that is confusing me, as when this is included, that totals more than 21

Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Welcome to Crochetville!

I count 21 dc stitches

  • dc, dc, dc
  • 2dc, dc, dc
  • 2dc, dc, dc
  • 2dc, dc, dc
  • dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc

3 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 6 = 21.  Round 6 should have ended with 18 stitches, because there are 3 increases in round 7.

I haven't done it yet, because I couldn't work it out.

I've assumed that : (3+2+2)*3=21, but am quite happy to be told this is wrong.

As I understand, this should be double crochet into 3 individual stitches, 2 double crochet into the next stitch, then double crochet into the next 2 individual stitches & repeat twice more'

The 3dc is not included in the the repeat.  Only the instructions in the () are repeated.  So, what you said in your last sentence is correct.

By the way, I assume that you are used to UK/Australian crochet terms.  If this was a US pattern, it would say sc.  I say this because it seems that most of the forum participants use US.  Here's the difference between them ... https://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/10/british-vs-american-crochet-terms/
