Increasing Magic Loop

poonhog

Question

Just started crocheting, and I'm having trouble understanding what the pattern wants me to do. Here's what it says:

  • Magic loop (6sts)

  • INCR every st (12sts)

  • INCR every 2d st (18sts)

I'm confused about the "2d," etc. Does it mean I increase that many stitches per every one stitch?

Welcome to Crochetville!

It means every second stitch, then every third stitch, fourth, etc. So, the second round you're doing 2 stitches in every stitch. In the third round you're doing 1 stitch and then 2 stitches. Round four is 1 stitch, 1 stitch, 2 stitches.

It's really easy to lose count to know when the next round starts. Cut a piece of scrap yarn in a different color. Place the end under the first stitch in a round. Flip it over the next round's first stitch. Keep doing that to the end. At the end, pull it out. It's to help you keep track of the rounds.
