Ripples are easy; counting is hard.  Ripples are just x number on each hillside, decrease y stitches in the valley and increase y stitches on the hilltop. The hard part is paying attention and not letting it drift, you need to keep count.  IMO, it's easier to keep count if you have a stitch pattern that isn't completely solid, so you can eyeball your count more easily.

This one is mostly solid but has an eyelet at the hill and the valley, easier to spot if your count is drifting
