Pattern Help, Please?

kewlgrammy

Question

Hi, I'm new to the forums and fairly new to crocheting.  I am having a difficult time understanding the repeat instructions in a pattern for blanket made with Motifs.

http://www.yarnspirations.com/patterns/gingham-blanket-1.html

Could someone explain this one to me?

2nd rnd:  Ch5 (counts as dc and ch2). *Miss next 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc.  (2 dc. Ch3. 2dc) in next ch-3 sp.** 1dc in next dc.  Ch2.  Rep from *twice more, then from * to ** once.  Join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch 5.

What I am not understanding is what exactly am I repeating twice more?  I know to start at the * but where do I stop?  And am I repeating * twice in succession before repeating * to ** once?

Very confused.

Thank you!

~Tina

The double asterisk is just a place marker.  Completely ignore it on the first 2 repeats, as if it wasn't there.  It is marking the spot where you will stop after the third repeat -- in other words, the third repeat only lacks the last dc.

The above link is a tutorial on reading a crochet pattern.  Scroll down to Parentheses, Asterisks, and Brackets.  Your question is the "don't throw your hands up in horror" part ;)
