Smooth colour changes in amigurumi?

Mygosh

Question

Hi !

I'm working on a stripy arigurumi giraffe but I don't like how the colour changes are jagged rather than smooth.

(When changing colour, I do the usual technique by pulling a loop of new colour through to complete the last single crochet and continuing in new colour).

I found an online tutorial but I'm still a bit confused! Does anyone have any tips?

Most amigurumi is done in a spiral.  However, you can replace the spiral with rounds.  Slip stitch the last stitch in each round with the first stitch.  When changing color, use the new color for the pull through on the slip stitch.  Make sure you do your first sc in the same stitch as the slip stitch.  Also, you can get away without the ch-1, since you're not turning.
