Yarn to thread conversion

Tampa Doll

Question

The pattern I am looking at is using dk or sports weight yarn.  No stores in my area carry sports weight yarn, so I am looking to convert it to thread.

Can I use size 3 thread, instead of dk or sport weight yarn?

It is for a doll and it is an angel pattern.

the standard sts per inch for different weights http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/weight.html

so sport in crochet is 16-20 sts per inch, and dk is 12-17.  ( looking at this reminds me that "baby" yarn is usually about sport wt, they are the same category.  if you'd rather use yarn than thread, you could look for Baby instead of Sport on the label.  Or just go by the gauge, either knit or crochet or both should be on each label.  )

aunt Lydia's sz 3 is 16-21 st per in  http://www.redheart.com/crochet-thread/aunt-lydias-fashion-crochet-size-3

so gauge wise size 3 should be about right.

Now I'm curious which pattern it is, and what yarn it recommends if any?

No problem and thanks.  It is a pattern called Christmas Angel, I purchased it from e-pattern.com and it is for a reborn or 16"-22" doll.

It is all white with gold accessories. Here it is on the home site Christmas Angel

Thank you for the information.  I am trying to use an off white almost cream color Baby Sport yarn.  I wish they could make a chart to help with this.

I knew you could help.
