Pattern help Vanna's Choice easy crochet critters

Sebmorgan1964

Question

Hello, need help understanding a step in a pattern. Making a giraffe from this book and have completed the body. Next step is:

Head and neck

With A, ch 2.

Rnds 1-5: work Rnds 1-5 of body - 18 sts.

Begin to stuff piece firmly. Continue to stuff as work progresses.

I don't understand this... Is there a standard "round" in crochet? Where do the 18 sts come in?

Thanks, I don't have a lot of experience with patterns!

Sharon

I'm guessing the pattern started with the body, then when you finished that, you were to move on to the head/neck part.  What it's saying (to save some typing) is to start the head/neck the same as the body started, after 5 rounds you should have 18 stitches.  Does that work?  (Meaning, did the body have 18 stitches after round 5?)

It might have been a little clearer if it said

Head and Neck

Ch 2, work as for body through round 5 (18 stitches).
