Mixing yarn weights in beanie hat

Amac88

Question

Hi everyone,

Not been crocheting long and have mastered scarfs, blankets and beanie hats. I have lots of double knit yarn which I would like to use to make hats, but chunky yarn is best. Has anyone ever made anything which combines double knit and chunky yarn? I wish to use the double knit to add a stripe of colour but will need to use a smaller crochet hook with this yarn.

Thanks :)

A Mac :)

Welcome to the 'ville!

You could carry 2 strands of the DK weight contrast color together (treating them as 1 strand)  to make it closer to the chunky weight, and use the chunky sized hook for all.

When you decide to progress to other wearables (like a jumper/sweater, mittens, socks, baby things), you might decide the finer weights are more appropriate because they drape nicely.  Every weight yarn has it's place...
