Help finding thread

lorenz

Question

Hey everyone.  Since Sarisue has solved my pattern problem in another topic :clap , I am on to the next problem.  I am looking for the thread my grandmother might have used crocheting her tablecloth.  Her thread is very fine and a light tan in color.  I think it must have been a 20, 30 or 40 guage thread, but I am not sure.  Can anyone point me in the direction of an heirloom crochet thread online that would come close to these characteristics?  I know it's a long shot, but I want to get this repair done. I have done extensive searching and have found nothing.  I thought perhaps someone here may have seen something like this while searchng for thread for themselves.  I would appreciate any help in this matter.  Thank you once again.

You are going to have a hard time matching this perfectly -- even white thread has 'dye lots' and you can see the difference if you use 2 balls of the same (modern) brand.

You can usually find size 30 in stores, but I've only seen finer online.  You might try taking the piece, or a short length of thread if you can unravel some, to Michaels or Joanns to see if it matches size 30 or 20.  If it's light tan it's probably ecru. Here are a couple of sites that sell small weight threads:
