Is there a name for what i do

Forrest747

Question

http://leftseatafghans.blogspot.com/?_sm_au_=iMVRSf5NJlV5ZW0B

I like to make patterns and logos with my projects and i was wondering is there a name for what i do where I do a double crochet and then a single then another double to create a hole

then the next row i do the double crochet where the single is and it just makes the project go faster.

also i have done a single crochet row and at a certain point do a double and drop it down to the previous row to create a bump is this technique called anything?

THank you

The single, double (following row, double in the single, single in the double) is called the up-down stitch or grit stitch--many stitches have more than one name, there may be others for this that I haven't run across.  I think this is the same as you described, but it doesn't really create a hole.

The photo on the left is a simple variation on filet, it is more traditionally done with blocks of more than 2 stitches (usually 3 stitches in a block, either 3 doubles or 1 double, chain 2)

Interesting, Alternate Stitch is a new one to me.  I know many stitches have multiple names.

In googling, though, I looked at several tutorials - a few described alternate stitch as (what I would have called) an extended HDC, another was another pattern altogether(which started with a row of sc), another was DC made between the stitches, not into the tops....hmm.  This is why it's a good thing to have patterns with a stitch definition guide!
