How do i do this I can't figure out what the brackets mean

(dc, [ch 1, dc] twice)

This is how I read it:

 

(dc [ch1, dc, ch1 dc] )

 

Anything between the ( ) are repeated when told after the )  [ ] tells you what needs to be repaeated, in this instance, twice.

[Gingerbread Girl]

The brackets mean you are going to repeat those steps however many times indicated, in this case twice. So your stitches for this part of the pattern would go like this:

dc
ch 1, dc

ch 1, dc

Then continue on with the next part of the pattern.
