I am with Kathy, I usually think things look fine without borders. But if you would really prefer to add one, if you want something simple, crab stitch/reverse single crochet is a quick, simple favorite of mine that I think looks good with pretty much everything. Or you could do a round of single crochet, then work a round of shell stitches for a scalloped edge. 

If you are interested in checking out a couple books on borders, a couple of my favorites are Around The Corner Crochet Borders by Edie Eckman,  50 Crocheted Afghan Borders by Rita Weiss, and 50 More Crocheted Afghan Borders also by Rita Weiss. Your local library might have them or others that you could take a look at.

I tend to add a border to all my afghans, even ripples or a giant granny. I just think it finishes it off very nicely. Depending on the pattern, I either do a reverse sc, or a sc, or dc, scallops, picot, shells. Sometimes you just have to do a few stitches to see what you like best.
