Crochet on perle edge

Is the perle edge wide enough to run a needle and thread behind it? I remember doing hankies with a rolled edge,  years ago, and I started that first row with a needle and thread, something like this, just to give me a base to start working on.

Is this your first crocheted edge? Just a reminder, this very first row will determine the placement of your shells or pattern so plan ahead, even on a piece of paper if you have to, to be sure your repeats are going to work out okay before you get to the corners and try to keep your stitches as evenly spaced as possible to avoid problems on your next rows.

You may want to work a small 3" or 4" sample of your crocheting on a scrap piece of cloth and hold it against your pillowcase to make sure you have everything lined up okay before you go too far with the needle and thread to be sure your stitch size will fit your pattern.

Let me know if I can help you.
