Help for Newtown, CT

After the senseless tragedy on Friday in Newtown, CT, I'm sure many of our caring, thoughtful Villagers are wondering how you can help the people of the town begin to heal.

Two fairly local Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) chapters---Happily Hooked on Crochet in CT and Crochet Guild of Prince William County-VA & PA)---are in the process of organizing an effort to gather stuffed animals for the children of Newtown.

They're still working out the logistics of how to send in your donations and how they'll get them delivered, but you can begin working on your donations now. Here's how:

  • Crochet (or knit or sew) a stuffed animal.
  • The school's colors are green and white, but you don't have to use those colors.
  • The goal is to begin shipping animals within the next week or two, so they can be delivered while the need is still the strongest, so begin work now.

As soon as the groups have worked out the logistics, I'll post a mailing address and possibly a drop-off point for those in the CT or DC area.

Feel free to post links to any stuffed animal patterns you're thinking about making. And thanks for your generous, loving spirit and desire to help the children and families and citizens of Newtown.
