large rugs

I am wanting to get started on a rug approx. 7 x 10. Could someone tell me the very best yarn to use? I am wanting a flat thick rug ( somewhat like a braided one, no nap). I need something that won't pill or pick badly.

 

I will probably faint when I find out what a rug of this type will cost! It is an odd size, tho and I am perfectly capable of creating one, so I thought you guys could help me out.

Im really not sure, when i made a rug, a smallish round one, i just used a couple or three strands of REd Heart yarn, and that made it thick and plushy, used a bigger hook too of course. Hope someone can help you out on this!

I was thinking the same thing. Bigger hook a few strands of red heart yarn. Been thinking about making a few rugs for Christmas. So I will watch this post.
