Question

I am planning on making several of Priscilla Hewitt's Christmas Angel Towel Rings for Christmas gifts this year. http://hometown.aol.com/lffunt/kitchangel.htm
The pattern has you crochet a ruffle for the bottom of the towel and then sew it on. Have any of you done this? Did you hand or machine sew it on? If you hand sew it, does a whip stitch hold it on good enough for machine washing?
I have not looked for the velour powder puffs yet either -- I haven't seen those in years. I hope they are still around. Where did you find them?
I think this is adorable and a fabulous gift for some neighbors, teachers, etc.
Thanks!
