Owl Crochet Hat

8mm hook, makes a 3-6 year old size hat

 

Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch.

 

Chain 2

 

R1-

9 double crochets in the ring, place stitch marker(adjust stitch marker for each row)

 

R2-

2 double crochet in each stitch around

 

R3-

1 double crochet in the first stitch, 2 double crochet in the second stitch, repeat around to the end of that round

 

R4-

1 double crochet in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in the second stitch, 2 double crochet in the 3rd stitch and repeat around

 

R5-11 double crochet one double crochet in each stitch around

 

switch color

 

R12-14

one double crochet in each stitch around

 

EARFLAPS

 

R15 and earflaps

 

one double crochet in the next 6 stitches

(to start earflap) one double crochet in the next 8 stitches

 

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 7 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 6 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 5 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 4 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 3 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 2 stitches

 

 

double crochet down side of earflap

 

slip stitch into the base of the earflap

 

Double crochet 13

 

EARFLAP #2

(to start earflap) one double crochet in the next 8 stitches

 

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 7 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 6 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 5 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 4 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 3 stitches

Chain 2 turn

skip 1st stitch and double crochet in the next 2 stitches

(if switching color tie off this color here)

 

 

 

With same color or switch color and double crochet all the way around the hat, slip stitching at the base of each side of the earflaps.

 

weave in all the loose ends

 

 

EYES:

6.5mm hook

 

Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form ring

9 double crochets in the ring, join to the first double crochet and switch color (make 2)

 

with new color, 2 double crochets in each stitch around, slip stitch into the first double crochet and tie off.

 

With last color,

1 double crochet in the first stitch, 2 double crochets in the second stitch, and repeat around and slip stitch into the first double crochet and tie off, weave in loose ends, leave one strand for sewing on to the hat. (make 2)

 

BEAK:

6.5mm hook

 

Chain 8

Double crochet in the 3rd chain from hook and across (6 stitches)

chain 2 turn

skip first stitch and double crochet across

chain 2 turn

skip first stitch and double crochet across....repeat until you have 1 stitch and a triangle

 

Double crochet around the triangle making 3 double crochets on each corner

 

join with a slip stitch and sew on to hat!

 

 

Sew all the pieces on to the hat as you would like them and enjoy an adorable owl hat!!

 

 

EARFLAP TIES:

Cut whatever colors you want as long as you want, loop through at the end of the earflap and braid. (Make 2)

 

 

EARS on top of hat:

Again cut the colors you want, tie to the top of the hat, using a slip stitch type of knot and cut to the desired size.

Have you tried crochet pattern central http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com they have almost everything. If not and you can find one for a toddler, use a smaller hook and see what kind of gauge you get from that. I wish I could help you with the pattern but I don't have one. You could also try http://www.ravelry.com...good luck!!

Thank you!! I think I found what I need now!!

 

I'm so excited!! I'm going to be making these for my aunts that are having baby boys soon. :D

Now I need to go to the store so that I can get my colors. :)

I'm wanting to do this pattern but I only have a size H hook so I was wondering what I need to do to make it the right size if I use that hook and if I am even able to do that.

 

PLEASE get back with me as soon as possible!!!!!! I need to make this before Monday!!!
