The square was scanned in two parts and then put together for a picture.
(Don't have a digital camera)

There's a graph at the end of the pattern to help if you have any problems.

Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 12”h x12”w inches

Gauge: 3 Rows of dc = 2”inches
7 dc = 2”inches

Notes:

*When you dc in 6th chain from hook this will leave 5 chains free. The 5 chains counts as part of starting chain, dc, and ch1.

Beginning ch4 counts as dc and ch1 through out pattern.

Directions:

Row 1: Ch40, 1 dc in 6th chain from hook, [ch1, skip next chain, 1 dc in next chain] Do this 17 times, ch4 and turn.
(19dc, 18-ch1 spaces)

Row 2: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st, [1 dc in next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st] Do this 16 times, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 4th chain of ch5* (there should be 3 chains left free for corner), ch4 and turn.
(35dc, 2-ch1 spaces)

Row 3: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, [ch1, skip next st, 1 dc in each of the next 7 sts, ch1, skip next st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts] Do this 2 times, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch4 and turn.
(31dc, 6-ch1 spaces)

Row 4: Skip next ch1 space, [1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 dc in next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st, ch1, skip next st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, ch1, skip next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next ch1 space] Do this 2 times, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch4 and turn.

(35dc, 2-ch1 spaces)

Rows 10-16: Repeat Rows 3 thru 9 for Rows 10 thru 16.

Row 17: Skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in next st, [ch1, skip next st, 1 dc in next st] Do this 16 times, ch1, skip next ch1 space, 1 dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch4, ch1.
(19dc, 18-ch1 spaces)

Do not turn!!!

Notes:

Now you’re going to start working in Rnds for the Border.

Corner space is where the ch1 and Row end meets at the corners.

Border:

Rnd 1: 2 hdc in Row end, 2 hdc in each of the next 15 Row ends, (2 hdc, ch3, 1 hdc) all in next corner space (Row end/ch1), 2 hdc in each of the next 16-ch1 spaces, (1 hdc, ch3, 2 hdc) all in next corner space (ch1/Row end), 2 hdc in each of the next 15 Row ends, (2 hdc, ch3, 1 hdc) all in next corner space (Row end/ch1), 2 hdc in each of the next 16-ch1 spaces, 1 hdc in same corner space as first 2 hdc, ch3, join with sl st to first hdc.
(136 hdc, 4-ch3 spaces)

Rnd 2: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 33 sts, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next ch3 space, [1 sc in each of the next 34 sts, (2 sc, ch2, 2 sc) all in next ch3 space] Do this 3 times, join with sl st to first sc.
(152sc, 4-ch2 spaces)

Finish off and weave in ends.
