Ruffled circle

what do i need to do to get a circle to ruffle and look pretty?

 

is that too many increases?

is there a "formual" to how to get it?

am not wanting to use fancy stitches, just a DC for example

just start w/ the formula for a flat circle http://crochet.about.com/library/blround.htm

and to start ruffling, make the increases closer together. for maximum ruffle, increase 2 or 3 sts at a time instead of 1.
