Animal fibers felt. Yarn that is animal fiber and not, not, not, not "super washed( this makes it machine wash and dryable) will felt. Synthetic fibers will not felt, Yarns that are mixed content, may felt, if the content of animal fiber is very high, bur will not felt to the extent that 100 animal fiber will, and may not felt evenly.

Another thing: most yarn that WILL felt now is marked "Great for Felting!" or something like that. If you want to try something relatively inexpensive and easy to get at a big-box craft store, Lion Wool and Landscapes will felt--Landscapes is a big thick 50/50 wool/acrylic blend, but it does felt, and LW is all wool worsted weight. Their Fisherman's Wool is supposed to felt, too, but I have trouble getting it to in our water. Paton's Classic Wool is a worsted weight that willl felt and comes in lots of colors.
