Washing Yarn?

Guest mishakitty78

Question

Guest mishakitty78

I've just started working on a capelet, and I'm using some red heart yarn. But it's so stiff! I suppose it's the fact that it's acrylic might be part of the problem. Once I finish the capelet, could I possibly wash it to make it a little softer? I have an afghan that I made from the same type of yarn, and it's pretty soft - I know I washed it and it was ok.

Any suggestions would be great! Help!

Acrylic yarn is acrylic yarn is acrylic yarn. It can be washed with no problems. The only thing to avoid is high heat in the dryer. It can kill the yarn removing all stretchability.

If the yarn is difficult to work with now, try putting it in a nylon stocking and tying shut. It can then be put in the washer or hand washed and dried to make it a bit easier to work with. :D
