Please Help Me With this Patten!

Question

Hi! I'm pretty new to crocheting. I just started on a potholder pattern called Country Love Potholder I got as a free pattern on a website. It is shaped like a heart. I am stuck here though...

Here is what the pattern says for round 1:

With Color A, CH 16

Rnd 1: Work 5 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 5 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 chs, 6 dc in last ch; working in unused loops of ch, dc in next 4 loops, hdc in next loop, sc in next loop, hdc in next loop, dc in next 4 loops; join with slip st to top of beg ch.

I do fine until I get to the part that says "working in unused loops of ch". What are they talking about? If I ch 16, then I have used all 16 loops when I get to this part!?! I have looked and looked at the picture to try to figure out what they are talking about but to no avail!

Here is a link to the pattern with a picture of it...thanks!

HELP!! :-)

That is a weird way to say it, but I believe she means to work all the way around the beginning chain. This part Work 5 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 5 chs, 3 dc in next ch, dc in next 5 chs will cause the V shape of the heart to form, doing this 6 dc in last ch next will cause a half circle around the end of the chain. This part working in unused loops of ch, dc in next 4 loops, hdc in next loop, sc in next loop, hdc in next loop, dc in next 4 loops; join with slip st to top of beg ch is going to form the inside top part of the V, with the sc stitch the actual inside V point.

This pattern gets you the same result but seems to be written a little bit differently and might help things seem clearer.

Oh yes! Welcome to Crochetville!! :welcome

Ok, thanks...it does make more sense on the pattern you posted. I had thought of doing that when I was trying to figure it out but I couldn't picture it working out in my mind. Now that I have done it, it looks like it will work!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to help me out!

Lisa
