Waxy Red Heart SS?

Hubby asked me to make him an afghan (I made one for my two oldest girls and I think he felt left out.) Well RHSS was on sale, I really don't like to use it but since this afghan (the flannel-ghan) requires so much I'd just buy that. Well last time I used it I just used an aluminum hook and it was fine. This time, I'm using my favorite bamboo hook, and after only 3 blocks, my hook is so waxy that the yarn keeps sticking. Anyone else ever have this problem? It doesn't happen when I use other yarn (Vanna's, Caron, etc) but of course it would be way too expensive to use those for that afghan.

Any suggestions on how I could keep the hook from becoming waxy, or the yarn from sticking? Thanks!
