Adjustable ring

Question

Hello! I am new to this forum and I'm just learning to crochet in the round. I found all types of directions on how to make an adjustable ring, but I am having a problem. I am ok with making the loop and the first chain, but for the life of me I can not figure out how to make the next step. The instructions all say to work your stitches onto the loop, but I can't seem to anchor them. Can someone help me? Like more detailed pictures or a video? Thanks in advance!

I hope this is what you mean. When making a round like for maybe a coaster or a hotpad this is what I do.

chain lets say 4 and slip stitch into the first chain. This makes your loop. Chain 3. Then do double crochets. What you're going to do is you'll have a loop on your hook so then yarn over insert your hook in your loop (not a stitch but your big loop right next to your chain 3) yarn over, bring out that loop. Now you have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and go through 2 of them. Now you have 2 on your hook. Yarn over again and take it through your last 2 loops. Now you are back to one look. Repeat this until you have 12 ( counting your beginning chain 3) laying next to each other. they are moveable. You can scooch them over a little. When you have 12 then do a slip stich into the top of that chain 3 that you did.

ROUND 2: each one of the double crochets you did now has a loop at the top of it. To begin round 2 chain 3, do your first double crochet at the base of your chain 3 then do 2 double crochets in the top loop of each double crochet from round one. Join to your round 2 beginning chain.

Round 3: now again each double crochet you made on round 2 has a loop at the top that you're going to build on. This time every other one will have two in it. Chain 3, double crochet in the NEXT loop, single crochet in the loop after that, 2 in the next loop, 1 in the next and so on.

join with slip stitch and repeat round three until it's as big as you want.

I hope this is what you needed and that it helps. Sometimes this comes as a second nature to me. I learned when I was about 7 so it's hard to explain. There are some tutorials with pictures on a site http://http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/index.php

Here is the direct link to a list of tips.

Lots of info there.
