Creation Reinterpretation?

In the thread above, I was grumpy and discouraged because the SnB Garden Scarf I had been working on hadn't been finished off well, and several flowers were unraveling. It was my first "big" project and it had gone really sour for me.

 

Well, I've been sitting at my office desk (shhh!) snipping with my nail scissors, and I was able to free a flower. I looked at it, and I looked at it, and I decided it was a coaster. So I gave it to the woman in the building who cross-stitched me a coaster when I first joined the department.

 

How common is it to reinterpret a piece of crochet? I may have a bundle of flower "coasters" that merely need to be freed from each other.
