Patterns around the world

Recommended Posts

I had bought some GREAT patters for Cupcake! (AWESOME) and she has patterns for Australia and America; my question is what is the difference? I can tell the difference in the pattern (reading it) but is it because the hooks are different or something?

Hi Kathy

Typically the difference between Australian and US patterns is the way the stitches are referred to. Australian's will sometimes use a treble crochet when they're referring to what the US calls a double crochet, or vice versa.

Also, our hooks are sized differently, or rather, called something else. The US has sizing like "G, J, etc", where here in Australia we refer to hook sizes by their literal diameter, eg 5mm, 4mm

Basically, we all do the same thing, we just call it something different.
