OK is there a trick to bulky yarns?

I want to do a kid sweater in size 6 super bulky yarn and i have a hard time seeing the stitches..any tips?

Is it because the yarn is a dark colour? Its always harder to see stitches in darker colours so unless you want to change colour there isnt much you can do.

 

If its because the stitches are too close together, try using a bigger hook size and making the smaller pattern size (do some gauge swatches to be sure)

I usually "feel" my way thru projects w/bulky yarn. Most patterns use the simplist of stitches (sc, dc etc) b/c the yarn is the fancy part. As long as I can feel where the hook goes next, I keep going. And they seem to turn out pretty good - I've done teddy bears and scarves in bulky.

It is not a dark colored yarn and the pattern calls for an L. It is just me lol

Likely you just have to get used to the different look of the stitches. You might swatch for a while to get used to it. Is it a simple/smooth yarn, or a fancy/fuzzy yarn?
