Are you looking for a smooth, virtually invisible increase?

If you aren't then this may help you. What you've described sounds almost like filet crochet, to increase in rows with that technique you would chain 6 at the end of the row you want to increase on, then dc in third ch and in next 2 ch, then chain 1, skip 1 and you would continue back across the row like normal.

Basically you're just adding a square, but it will jut out a bit. This shouldn't be a problem with construction of the finished product, but I don't know just what exactly you had in mind for a construction technique.

Anyway, I hope I've helped you, even if only in some small way.
