Should all the remaining rows of post dc be crossovers from row 5 and on?

Also, I am using 2 strands of red heart, I too would not like to line it, and an N hook, but it seems way too bulky and am having a hard time working with it. Any suggestions?

From what I read of the pattern you should continue the cross over on every row with the post dc. How about using a smaller hook with just one strand of yarn to make your work tighter in order not to line it.You will have to do more rows than you would have with the bigger needle, but the tighter, smaller stitches will still look as good as the original.
