Question

This is my first crochet project ever. Having some big trouble. Did:
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc into first -6 st
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around - 12 st
Now I don’t understand what this next set means; what exactly I need to do.
Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 6 times - 18 st
The other is I have is that rather than looking round it’s come out with some obvious corners.
Can anyone help me?
