Help identifying pattern

I have an afghan that my aunt made many years ago. There is a square on it with the pattern shown in the attached picture. I would love to use pattern but can't seem to figure out how she did it. Can anyone help me recreate it?

Welcome to the Ville! It is what is often called moss stitch, also goes by other names. Basically it is 1 single crochet, 1 chain , and next row you sc in the chain space and chain1 skipping the sc.

In this kind of stitch pattern, I always lose track of my end stitches since they are so short and blend together so I would put markers in first and last st of each row.

Thank you so much. That's exactly what I needed. I was doing something similar but was having issues with lining up my stitches at the end of the rows.
