baby blanket tears.....help to understand pattern

Here is the instructions for row 4:

Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in first st, ch 3, 3-dc Cl in top of st just made....what is considered the st just made??????? I am a novice but can usually figure it out but this has me stumped.

I would truly appreciate any and all help anyone could provide.

It is the dc you made in the first stitch.

Yes, that is the patern...you are GOOD!!!!!! I've only really ever done chevron style blankets, so i am stretching my wings with this one. I have completed row 4 and am trying row 5.

To me, it would be easier if there were a clear photo of it, because in the photo there i can't really tell at all what it is supposed to look like.
